Hi, I'm Jemma
I have a slow, seasonal creative practice shaped by place, process and materials.
My background is in creative producing and community arts work, and alongside that I’ve always made things with my hands, usually inspired by nature. Over time, those strands have come together into a small, seasonal practice that moves between making, running workshops and creating opportunities for people to come together and explore creativity.
I live with ME/CFS, an experience that has shaped how I work, encouraging a slower pace and a deep respect for energy, rest and rhythm. It has reinforced my commitment to working seasonally, sustainably and with kindness, both towards myself and others.
I live in Hambledon, in the heart of the South Downs in Hampshire, where footpaths, hedgerows and changing light quietly feed into my work. Much of what I make starts outdoors, with a walk, a bit of noticing, and an attempt to hold onto some of what I’ve experienced. I work with natural materials and slow, hand-crafted processes. My work follows the seasons and is always made in small batches.
Alongside my own making, I run creative workshops and work as a creative producer on projects that allow artists and communities to make thoughtful, accessible creative opportunities together. My approach is practical, warm and human, and shaped by years of working with communities and creatives across Hampshire.
At its heart, this practice is about bringing a little of the outside in, through making, experiences and shared moments of creativity.
